Learn English through cinema

Movies for A1 English Learners

At A1, a whole movie can still feel challenging. Start with familiar stories, use English subtitles, and focus on understanding the situation rather than every word.

How to use these movies

Watch a short scene first, review five useful words, then replay it without pausing. Repetition is more valuable than choosing a film with no unfamiliar language.

These are relative matches from subtitle vocabulary—not official CEFR ratings. Accent, speed, background noise, and your familiarity with the story also affect comprehension.

12 vocabulary-based recommendations

How these recommendations are selected

Avocado Cinema analyzes the English subtitle vocabulary of each film. Recommendations favor a strong share of A1 vocabulary, limit language above the selected level, and exclude films with very low audience ratings or too few votes. The result is a starting point—not a promise that every scene will feel equally easy.
